Offensive Player of the Year

DAVID COTELLESE Pope John Paul

David Cotellese put together a senior season that many local people will be talking about for quite a few years. He helped Pope John Paul, in only their second season of existence, become not only competitive, but make the District I AAA playoffs as well. Without the benefit of a solid running game, Coach Mike Santillo relied heavily on the left arm of Cotellese to carry the bulk of the load offensively. He had sure-handed receivers in Siejk, Gribb, and Stinson, so the Golden Panthers threw the football....and threw it very well. Cotellese ended up with 2,211 yards while completing 160 passes, with 22 of them going for touchdowns. He set a single-game record for throwing five TDs in a thrilling double OT win against Perk Valley.
His two years stats: 3,846 yards and 32 TDs.

Defensive Player of the Year

ANDREW SCANLAN Spring-Ford

Andrew Scanlan earned the respect of 2nd year head coach Chad Brubaker early on, so Brubaker decided to give his senior star more responsibilty. He made Scanlan learn both the cornerback and safety position on defense to go along with his normal wide receiver position. The move paid great dividends as Scanlan roamed the secondary like a seasoned vet. He made plays all over the field and usually had the job of shutting down the top receiver on the opponents offense. He intercepted three passes, and more importantly proved to be a very solid tackler. He could be seen either deep in coverage, or pressing the line of scrimmage making a big tackle. Oh, and just for kicks he led the PAC10 with 52 catches for 839 yards and 10 TDs! He is also a great student off the field, and has heards offers from Northwestern, Maryland, Duke, and Illinois.
